Initial situation: a small producer of wooden windows had to face an in-
creasing market competition. The rising number of variants causes smaller lot sizes and higher unit costs. Thus, MATT & PARTNER were enrolled to find cost saving opportunities without negative impact on the flexibility requi-
rements.
Consulting approach: starting from an analysis of the product spectrum, the consultants introduced a takted segment for series production and a segment for customer individual production. For the two segments, diffe-
rentiated order and material management strategies like Kanban and signal control were defined and implemented.
Results: productivity could be noticeably improved and lead times were dramatically reduced, without any negative impact on flexibility.
